Long-Term Efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Treating Pediatric Eyelid Vitiligo: A Four-Year Case Study 中药治疗儿童白癜风的长期疗效:四年病例研究

A 10-year-old girl with a one-year history of vitiligo on her left upper eyelid began treatment with our traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Over a four-year period, her condition showed gradual improvement as documented by a series of photographs. In the first few months, the white patch remained prominent, but slight repigmentation started appearing at the edges. By the first year, the patch had become less defined, with softened borders indicating steady pigment return. Over the next year, pigmentation gradually increased, and by the third year, only faint traces of the original patch were visible. After four years of consistent TCM therapy, the girl’s eyelid had regained natural skin color, the patch appears fully repigmented. By Year 4, the patch appears fully repigmented, indicating a successful treatment outcome. The progression highlights the potential of TCM as a slow but effective and safe approach for treating vitiligo in children, particularly when monitored over a long-term period.

Baseline: A distinct, depigmented patch is visible around the upper eyelid, with clear contrast to the surrounding skin. Month 2: The white patch remains prominent, but there is a slight indication of skin tone starting to return at the edges. Month 5: The patch appears slightly smaller and less bright, suggesting initial repigmentation, though still relatively faint. Month 8: Continued reduction in size and brightness is evident, indicating that pigmentation is progressively returning to the affected area. Month 12: The patch is less defined, and the border with the surrounding skin is becoming softer, showing more gradual repigmentation. Month 15: The white patch is now markedly smaller and less bright, with skin tone closer to normal appearing in certain areas. Month 20: Significant repigmentation is observed, with the patch barely visible and blending more seamlessly with the surrounding skin. Month 24: The area is even less distinct, with only minimal depigmentation remaining. Month 28: Almost complete repigmentation, with only a faint trace of the previous patch. Month 32: The skin tone is nearly uniform, with the affected area virtually indistinguishable from surrounding skin. Year 3: Any signs of the patch are barely visible, suggesting nearly full repigmentation. Year 4: Complete repigmentation appears to have been achieved, with no visible sign of the initial white patch.
